The township of Wanaka sits on the southern shore of Lake Wanaka, in the South Island’s Otago region. It’s about a hundred and twenty kilometres from Queenstown.
This area is near several top-class ski fields, which provide downhill skiing, heli-skiing, snowboarding and Nordic skiing.
The lake and its rivers, notably the nearby Clutha, are a great place for jet-boating, kayaking, rafting and fishing.
Wanaka is becoming famous for hosting Warbirds Over Wanaka, a biennial display of old warplanes, aerial acrobatics and battlefield re-enactments.
The Wanaka Transport and Toy Museum features planes, and every other form of transport you an think of, as well as an extensive collection of historic and vintage children’s toys.
Wanaka is also home to Puzzling World. As well as a puzzle shop and café, you’ll find a huge maze, optical illusions, and a leaning tower.
The Big Bounce provides inflatable fun for the whole family, including bungee basketball and human bowling.
