Orewa

New Zealand hotels

Orewa is a town of about seven thousand people, on the Hibiscus Coast north of Auckland.

The coast in this area is particularly beautiful, and easy to enjoy given the sub-tropical climate. The lovely views can be enjoyed on a peaceful walk along the Millennium Walkway, but the warm water and wind also make it a great place for swimming, canoeing and surfing.

Just north of Orewa is Waiwera, which is home to thermal pools and a spa resort facility featuring twenty-two separate indoor and outdoor pools.

That’s also where you’ll find the historic village of Puhoi, which was settled by immigrants from Bohemia. The movie Bridge to Terabithia was filmed here.

For a little more adventure, you can take a trip in an eight-wheeled offroader, through the bush and beaches. The tour also includes a visit to a stand of thousand year old Kauri trees. You can also see the local bush from the Whangaparaoa Railway.
