Manukau City

New Zealand hotels

Manukau City is part of Auckland, and being home to Auckland Airport is often the first part of New Zealand people see. It’s also home to the largest Polynesian population of any city in the world.

It sits on an isthmus nestled between the Waitamata and Manukau Harbours, with beautiful views of boats and islands in the bays.

Manukau City is home to Rainbow’s End, a large adventure park featuring New Zealand’s only corkscrew rollercoaster. As well as high-adrenaline rides for adults, the park features a section suitable for small children, including their own miniature rollercoaster.

It’s also where you’ll find Butterfly Creek, where you can walk among hundreds of free-flying butterflies. The Otara Market is an experience in itself, a bustling hive of Polynesian culture, food and art and craft.

For a quieter day, try Howick Historical Village, a replica of an 1840s pioneer settlement complete with costumed staff. Or visit the Otuataua Stonefields, a bizarre landscape created by ancient volcanic eruptions.
