Casinos

New Zealand hotels

New Zealand’s casinos are located in Auckland, Hamilton, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Queenstown (2).

SkyCity operates the biggest, in Auckland, which is located at the base of the Sky Tower. The Auckland casino is open 24 by 7, and has over 100 tables and 1600 gaming machines. The casino complex also provides VIP gaming, bingo, restaurants, theatre entertainment, accommodation, and views and thrills from the top of the tower.

SkyCity also operates the Hamilton casino (23 tables, 330 machines), as well as one of the casinos in Queenstown (86 machines and a few tables). Restaurant and bar facilities are also available at both.

Queenstown also has another small boutique casino, located in the lakeside Steamers Wharf complex. Lasseters Wharf Casino is open from 11am to 3am daily, and offers a small selection of machines and table games.

Christchurch casino is open 24 hours and is located in Victoria Street. It has 34 tables and 500 slot machines, and runs free shuttles from local hotels.

The Dunedin casino is located in a former hotel, which was built in 1883, and fully restored in 1999. This provides an opulent setting for over 170 gaming machines, and a small range of table games.

Many bars and clubs all across New Zealand also offer slot machines. These are known as ‘pokie macchines’, or ‘pokies’
