Queenstown isn't all action packed adventure. It's also home to stunning scenery and you'll see a lot of it on this 700m long journey as you ascend up to Bob's peak.
It's an easy 5 minute walk from the centre of town. Once up get up to the top, you are treated to a 220 degree vista that is absolutely stunning. You can see the world famous Remarkables Mountain range, Coronet Peak and across to Lake Wakatipu and to Cecil and Walter Peaks.
You can soak in all this view while you dine in the two restaurants. There is a cafe serving snack food or you can treat yourself to the skyline restaurant. The buffet is entitled the “Taste of New Zealand” which includes salmon, green lip mussels, pacific prawns, a good old fashioned kiwi roast lamb served with a choice of sauces and vegetables and pavolova for desert.
After that prodigious feast, you can watch the Maori Haka live show. The history of the Maori people is told through song and dance. You'll experience the fearsome challenge of the haka and watch the stunning poi dance. (Poi's are a ball suspended from a length of flexible material, usually a plaited cord, which are held in the hand and swung in time to the chanting.)
If you would prefer to be outside, there are several walks to embark upon. Just collect a trail map from the information desk. They range from 30 minute walks to 6 hour hikes. The 30 minute self guided walk is particularly good as there are regularly spaced boards that tell you what you are looking at and the history behind it.
