The Old Bank Building

New Zealand hotels

The Old Bank Building on Lambton Quay is Wellington's most exquisite designer fashion and beauty destination. The Building houses top New Zealand designers and international fashion houses, an array of beauty and cosmetic stores, cafés and indulgent speciality stores.

The 26 stores are housed in a former bank of New Zealand Building as the name alludes to but before that it marked the start of the coastline until an earthquake reclaimed the land.

The Arcade contains a slew of well-known boutiques, including New Zealand designer Andrea Moore and the tempting Minnie Cooper shoe store. Napoleon Cosmetics does wonderful makeovers and Rixon Groove are shirt- and tie-makers par excellence. For a coffee and a sit down, you have the chance of Starbucks or Mojo. Less of a coffee house, more of a café is Smith the Grocer. Indulgences include de Spa Chocolaiter, l'occitane skin and body products, Lush beauty products and Spa Express.

The beautifully restored Banking Chamber contains an animated "Bank Clock" that tells the story of Plimmers Ark and the building that was built upon it. The Ark itself is still visible in the Bank's Vault Arcade, which leads into the underground BNZ Centre.

You'll often find that the Old bank has become a favourite with the corporate suit crowd who work in the CBD and want to nip out for some lunch.

An incomparable ambiance and a splendid location make The Old Bank Arcade an attraction in itself. A beautiful way to shop - The perfect place to be.
Move up through Willis Street for more of the same, and into Cuba Mall for edgy design stores and off-the-wall retail surprises. Check out Tinakori Road for a handsome cluster of boutiques.
