Situated right in the heart of Wellington’s golden mile, Kirkcaldie & Stains is steeped in history. The department store has existed in some form since 1868 and is now a Wellington icon and proud part of Wellington’s history. Many staff are second generation workers with one or both of their parents working there before them. There have even been some marriages among the staff!
Known locally as “Kirkcaldies” or “Kirk’s” is still prides itself on the little touches. Like having someone at the front door to escort you to wherever you want to go and to answer the "Where can I find….?" questions.
Here you will find the big names in Designer clothing. The men can choose between Armani Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger, English Laundry, Grimaldi ties, Emporio Armani underwear and Peroni leather goods. For the women, there are Jaegar, Calico, Rosie & Dixie, Velocity labels. The lingerie section hosts many labels which are exclusive to Kirkcaldie & Stains. The Fine China department includes such big names as Versace, Lalique, Villeroy & Boch and Royal Doulton.
The fromagerie and Chocolate section is absolutely essential. They have a wide selection of cheese from New Zealand as well as imported ranges from France, Italy, Spain and Australia which are cut to order. Choose from the wide range of loose chocolates in our cabinet created by New Zealand, Australian and French Chocolatiers. These are available to buy individually or you can create your own gift box selection.
All of this splendour is spread over three floors. If it all becomes too daunting Kirkcaldie & Stains have a personal shopper service which you can prearrange before the visit. For those that have been to Harrods in London or David Jones in Melbourne, Kirkcaldie & Stains is smaller version of these shops.
